Our Founders

The founding members of HFHK, Nicki Holt-Manandhar and Aruna Khadka, worked together on behalf of orphaned, abandoned and at-risk Nepalese children since October 2003 until April 2010.

Australian citizen Nicki Holt-Manandhar first visited Nepal in December 1997 and promptly fell in love with the country and its people. Nicki returned to Nepal twice to volunteer, before finally throwing in her executive job in Australia to live and work full time in Nepal in June 2003.

Since that time, Nicki and Aruna worked hard to make life better for orphaned, abandoned and at-risk Nepalese children. Thanks to the help of wonderful supporters, Nicki and Aruna have been able to make a significant difference in the lives of over 70 vulnerable Nepalese children.

Our New Directors

In 2010, Derek Whitlock took over from Nicki as International Director.  Derek has extensive experience in management and leadership roles in education in Queensland, Australia.  He visited Nepal with his wife, Anne, for the first time in 2005.  They resolved to return and help the children of this beautiful country.  Derek and Anne have now moved to Nepal to continue their work with at-risk children.

Shortly after Derek's appointment, Bibek Ghimire was appointed as Director of the Nepal operations.  He has worked tirelessly with Derek to realise the goal of closing the two children's homes.  To date, 21 children have been re-integrated with their families, 6 are living independently and 25 are living in five family groups.
